Dutch Police = Happy Hackers

Soviet wet dreams become reality in Holland

In an article in yesterday’s newspaper “Het Parool”, the Council of Chief Constables of the Dutch police declared that the Dutch police uses hacking computers as a technique to obtain information on alleged criminals. They also introduce Trojans as a means to obtain evidence. “The police is quite happy with these techniques”, according to the Parool article.

Dutch police team arrests “hate cartoonist”, hold him for 36 hours

A Dutch cartoonist who publishes his drawings under the nickname “Gregorius Nekschot” has been arrested early Tuesday morning by a team of 10 policemen. The police also confiscated his computer, his mobile phone and other material from his home. This was announced by Dutch comedian Hans Teeuwen in a late-night talk show yesterday evening. Nekschot’s lawyer and the office of the Dutch DA have confirmed this information.

Allegedly, one of the policemen told Nekschot that “this would mean the end of his anonymity.”

The EU’s Continuing Slow Suicide

September 26, 2006 - The final stage in the EU’s historic “big bang” enlargement of 2004 was completed today when the European commission announced that Romania and Bulgaria would be allowed to join on January 1 next year.

There used to be a time when the entry of new member states in the EU/EEC was subject to popular debates, both in the candidate countries and in the existing member countries. The most spectacular debates took place in Norway where the population rejected membership in 1972, and the same year in France where the French withdrew their opposition to the entry of Great Britain in the then-EEC. And when the UK entered the EEC on January 1 1973, together with Ireland and Denmark, it was actually a festive occasion.

Jésus est né de parent plutôt pauvres. Bill est un gosse de riches (quoique moins que ses enfants …) Mais leurs, comment dire, entreprises ? empires ? ont vu le jour à un tournant de l’histoire : l’arrivée des Romains en Judée pour l’une, l’arrivée des ordinateurs personnels à l’université et dans le monde des Grands Systèmes pour l’autre.
